Due WED (02/14) before 11:59pmPost your Final Draft 1 here. Remember, you need to double-return/enter between each paragraph so that when I get the email version of your post, I can at least see where your paragraph breaks are. On Thursday (02/15), you must have all FOUR of the following for me to accept your Essay Project 1 packet:
If you did not turn in an RD1, you must email me a version of it (seven paragraphs on why language or technology is more powerful than the other - see RD1 posting). Then you must print it out and include it in the packet if you are to turn in the packet on Thursday (02/15). If you did not turn in an AB1, you must email me a version of it (see AB1 posting), print it out, and include it in the packet if you are to turn in the packet on Thursday (02/15). You can find correct MLA formatting guidelines here:
* Note: A Works Cited page (WCP) is simply your AB without the extra sentences explaining how that source was useful to you. Also, sometimes, you will have come across more sources since completing the AB assignment and/or dumped other sources you ultimately found not as useful to your essay. Only cite the sources that you used in your essay.

Language is usually underrepresented, but it actually possesses more power than technology. Our language is a powerful tool that can manipulate the human mind in numerous ways. My Sister's Keeper is an excellent instance of how language can really affect how we feel about things. Words have this power to cause us feelings of fear, happiness, anxiousness, etc.

Language is the building blocks of our world today. One person speaking out can change how we feel forever, causing a premiant outlook. James Harbeck makes an excellent remark, "We tend to think of swear words as one entity, but they actually serve several distinct functions." Causing us the feel emotions and be passionate towards what we care about. Words are a necessity, even though we don’t always realize, but they have the power to change the minds of those who are uncertain. Words have this effect to change the world in ways we might not always understand. Language is something so small but holds so much meaning.

The word "power" when used as a noun has four different meanings. Power could refer to physical strength, the ability to influence, being able to act in a particular way, or energy. Technology has the ability to enhance a person's ability to influence others or can be created with immense strength which is what makes technology more powerful than language whether it is written or spoken. The movie, Big Hero 6, showcases the power of technology in a heart wrenchingly beautiful way.

Baymax is not a form of artificial intelligence, but in reality we have recently been introduced to Sophia the robot who is an artificial intelligence humanoid created by Hanson Robotics. Harriet Taylor wrote an article on Sophia and said, "Sophia's lifelike skin is made from patented silicon and she can emulate more than 62 facial expressions. Cameras inside her "eyes," combined with computer algorithms, enable her to "see," follow faces and appear to make eye contact and recognize individuals. A combination of Alphabet's Google Chrome voice recognition technology and other tools enable Sophia to process speech, chat and get smarter over time. Hanson is working with IBM and Intel to explore integrating some of their technologies." Sophia is continuously learning new information and she was made to be just like any other human. The line between man and machine is starting to fade. When there is no difference between human and robot, then the question about whether language or technology is more powerful will no longer make sense. Sophia has even made a joke about destroying humans. Here comes that robot uprising I mentioned.

(P1) Technology is more powerful than language because most people communicate with technology and make differences with what they do with it. The difference between the two are: Language is how we talk and think, technology is what gets our opinions and ideas out into the world. Technology is progressive and keeps progressing day by day. An example of this is a famous Broadway musical called Dear Evan Hansen.

(P1) Language is the oldest form of communication between humans for thousands of years, and it still continues to be the most used to this day. Language is a written system of symbols, or an oral system of sounds used in a uniform fashion by a number of people, who are thus enabled to communicate intelligibly with one another (Dictionary). On the flip side, technology is considered the machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge (Oxford Dictionary). Language is more powerful than technology because it creates diverse thinking, it's a far more practical form of communication, it unites people together, Body Language is universal, and we have used it as a device to pass down knowledge and wisdom for thousands of years. The power of language is more impactful than any modern day existing technology and can is seen in the Comedy series, Master of None.

(P5 CONTINUED) According to Psychology Today nonverbal communication continues to be primarily used in our modern day. For generations we have used our bodies as forms of communication without having to speak. On the flip side newer technology has enabled us to communicate effortlessly all without ever speaking or writing anything. The introduction of the smartphone by Steve Jobs revolutionized how we would forever communicate by making "technology accessible by bringing it into the mainstream" (Cohen). These apple products were distinctive to look at and easy to use but even then, we still manage to miscommunicate with each other. Body language allows for communication to others instantly about "whether or not we are comfortable or uncomfortable, content or miserable, safe or unsafe" (Joe Navarro). Body language is superior in the way it translates to what we actually mean all without verbal communication. If we hadn't been able to successfully communicate with our body language since the dawn of mankind, we would have gone extinct by now.

From Rena Pacella, “They are implicitly trusted because they are hardwired with what Asimov called the Three Laws of Robotics--rules that force them to protect humans above all else. The seemingly perfect circle of protection breaks down, however, when a maniacal computer brain reinterprets the three laws, reasoning that the best way to protect humans is to rule them. Standing against this strictly logical, rebellious machine is Sonny, a new kind of robot designed to evolve and learn through experience and emotion”. This something we have to improve if we want them to listen to us and not try to take us over.

Language can be defined as the method of human communication whether it be face to face with words, hand gestures or even with body posture which is known as body language. We also communicate through technology with our cellphones by texting, calling or video calling each other. In today’s day an age we use technology in just every way you can think of. How we commute with our daily lifestyle, how we help patients in a hospital or even by how we communicate across the world. Whether it being to our relatives, friends or to our employees/employers. Technology has advanced so much in what it seems like such a short amount of time. Yes, language is the way we communicate and also plays a vital role in our everyday life, but how are we going to grow as a community or even as a society if we can’t reach out to one other in order for life on earth to keep going. As our society advances and expands technology does as well, but sometimes the demand of the human race is too much for this earth to supply. Therefore technology plays a vital role for us in many ways as shown in the film ‘Interstellar’. I believe that technology is stronger in our society than language because without it our world would collapse and we would be doomed for.

which allowed him to regain his legs in a different world, but of course still being able to control this body. Of course this is a fictional movie but can also be used in real life. The advancement of technology has given doctors the power to create prosthetic body parts for people around the world to finally be able to feel normal or to use in their everyday life so they can be just like the rest of us.
