My Course Policy
Attendance: Any more than THREE absences will seriously jeopardize your chances of passing this class. Emergencies happen, but if too many emergencies occur in one semester, perhaps this is not a good time to be taking on an academic endeavor. Absences are better understood if you have contacted me ahead of time rather than after.
Lateness: I'd rather you be late than absent. However, being late, for an instructor, is like belching in their class. At best, it offends; at worst, it hurts your grade.
And remember, leaving class early is the same as arriving late.

COM Course Policy
Withdrawal: Failure to attend classes or log into the online class will NOT constitute an official or automatic withdrawal. It is the student's responsibility to acquire and complete the drop form when the student has decided to drop the class. Any student who fails to withdraw will receive a grade of "F" for the class. The instructor is not responsible for dropping students. Please visit http://www.com.edu/admissions/drop-notification to obtain more information regarding the consequences of DROPPING a class multiple times.
The last day to withdraw from this course with a "W" is April 23, 2018. See COM Academic Calendar: http://www.com.edu/admissions/academic-calendar.

Plagiarism: Basically, it's claiming words that were not written by you as your own. However, plagiarism is not a basic phenomenon in that it is not always done with malicious intent. Plagiarism also happens when we don't know how to properly cite our sources according to academic protocol, when we haven't learned how to discuss outside material in our essays with the right technical tools. For starters, check out this the link below to get an idea of what we will be learning in this course and what will and will not be acceptable thereon.
My committed learning outcomes for you (also known as Student Learner Secondary Outcomes):
Failure to master these five objectives of the course will prevent the result of any passing grade for the student.
- Critically assess sources of information you come across to be logically sound and academically coherent or not.
- Knowledgeably find sound and coherent sources as well as understand how crucial it is to expose yourself to ALL perspectives regardless of whether you might disagree with them.
- Logically and coherently review with your peers on an intellectual level about aforementioned sources.
- Translate and transfer what you have gained via sources and peer collaboration into clear and concise academic prose.
- Competently compose a technically-correct academic essay according to standard MLA guidelines.
- Attain a worldview that accepts the idea that everyone has a right to their own opinion, that such opinions are formed solely from one's life experiences, and that the only way to alter another's opinion is through substantiated reason and a academically honorable rhetoric.
